CAUTION: THIS HIKE IS ON PRIVATE PROPERTY

Although illegal, Kamehame Ridge is a relatively easy hike with paved roads and sweeping views of Waimanalo Bay.

To enter the trailhead, drive all the way to the end of Kamehame Drive to where you will find a yellow gate. Because the area is residential, it is usually hard to find street parking. Also keep in mind that because the hike is off limits, there may be people guarding the entrance.

The entrance is a yellow gate that reads "PRIVATE PROPERTY: KEEP OUT." Once you past the gate, just keep on the paved road and that will lead you to the top of the hike. There are some hills along the way so don't expect a walk in the park. I also recommend bringing sunscreen for there is no shade along the hike.

When reaching the top of the hike, you will start to see fences along the left side of the trail. There is a cut out in the fence that leads to the hidden Kamehame Stairs. If you go a little further, you will stumble upon a construction site with a huge white tower. I would advise parents not to let their young children climb the tower for it is extremely high. Despite the strong winds that kept messing up my hair, I found the scenery from the tower to be one of the most stunning views I ever encountered on a hike.

I would recommend this hike for anyone who is looking for a brisk morning walk. Compared to the nearby Kokohead, Kamehame Ridge Hike is fairly easy and short. The views of the island's southeast side are absolutely breathtaking, and it doesn't require that much walking to reach the summit.
